- El Patriarca armenio de Constantinopla es en la actualidad el jefe de uno de los más pequeños patriarcados de la Antiguas iglesias orientales, que ha ejercido un importante papel político y aún hoy ejerce una autoridad espiritual, manteniendo un gran ascendiente entre las iglesias orientales. A pesar de la enorme disminución en el número de sus fieles, el patriarcado sigue siendo la mayor comunidad cristiana de Turquía. El Patriarcado armenio de Constantinopla reconoce la primacía del Catholicos de Armenia, con sede en Etchmiadzin, Armenia, en los asuntos que se refieren al ámbito de la Iglesia armenia. En cuestiones locales, la sede patriarcal es totalmente autónoma.
