The Liga de Ascenso is the second professional level of the Mexican football league system. The winner of the tournament is promoted to the Primera División de México. The bottom team gets relegated to the Segunda División. Formerly known as Primera División A (First Division A) the league changed its name and competition format in 2009. The main changes are that clubs now don't need a FMF Certification to get promoted and that the competition doesn't use group stages.

  • La Liga de Ascenso es el torneo de segunda categoría del fútbol en México. El torneo fue establecido en 1994 cuando se intentó crear una "Liga Premier" y la Segunda división mexicana cambió de nombre a "Primera A". Cambia de nuevo de nombre en 2009 tomando el de Liga de Ascenso, que es con el que se le conocera a partir del Torneo Apertura 2009. Se juegan dos torneos por año. En cada torneo, siete equipos califican a una liguilla (El primer lugar de la Tabla General clasifica directo a Semifinal). La liguila consiste en partidos de visita recíproca de cuartos de final, semifinal y la gran final. El descenso y ascenso es cada dos torneos, contando el porcentaje de partidos ganados y jugados de los últimos seis torneos. Para ascender a Primera División el equipo debe de ganar un torneo y disputar un "juego de ascenso" ante el ganador del otro, o bien, puede ganar los dos y ganar su pase automáticamente. Para el torneo Apertura 2009 se han confirmado la participación de 17 equipos.
