It was originally released on Albert Productions. A modified international edition was released on Atlantic Records in June 1977.

Die Single Whole Lotta Rosie gehört inzwischen zu den bekanntesten Stücken der Band und schaffte 1980 einen Eintritt in die UK Top 40 auf Platz 36. Wie schon bei den vorhergehenden Alben sind die Titellisten der australischen und internationalen Version von Let There Be Rock leicht verschieden. Für die internationale Version wurde der Stück Crabsody in Blue durch eine gekürzte Version des Lieds Problem Child ersetzt, das schon auf Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap enthalten gewesen war. Auf der europäischen LP-Version war Crabsody in Blue noch enthalten, ab der ersten CD-Version fiel es jedoch weg und ist bislang nur in Australien auf CD erschienen.

La légende veut que durant l'enregistrement, l'un des amplis d'Angus ait pris feu, et que George Young lui demandera de continuer à jouer. Certains fans prétendent qu'on peut entendre les grésillements de cet ampli en feu en écoutant Whole Lotta Rosie. Le son fait moins "garage", comparé aux précédents, beaucoup plus professionnel. Comme d'habitude, l'Australie a droit à une pochette différente de l'Europe, plus sobre, avec un fond noir, et un gros plan sur une guitare. On notera aussi que l'édition vinyle contient Crabsody in Blue qui sera absent de la réédition CD européenne (cette réédition ayant été prise en charge par les américains, ces derniers ont estimé que cette chanson était "trop osé"). Cette chanson a été remplacé par Problem Child, encore inédit aux États-Unis à l'époque. L'album s'est vendu à 10 millions d'exemplaires dans le monde.
