Shelly Lee Leffingwell (born October 13, 1939) is the current mayor of Austin, Texas. He was first elected as an Austin city council member in 2005, won re-election in 2008, and was elected mayor in 2009. He was reelected to a second three year term on May 12, 2012 with over 52% of the vote. Leffingwell is a native of Austin and a retired airline pilot. He graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, then became an officer and pilot in the United States Navy.
