  • The Leather Archives & Museum (LA&M), based in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago, USA, has much information and details on the beginning of the leather subculture and BDSM community. The 10,000 sq ft (930 m), two-story building houses: Eight exhibition galleries; A 1,425 sq ft (132.4 m) climate controlled archival storage space; A 164 seat auditorium; A 600 sq ft (56 m) reading library to house the research collections; Various other spaces which serve as working space for staff, volunteers and researchers. In addition to activities in Chicago, the LA&M serves the leather world by preserving material from all leather communities, sending “traveling” exhibits around the country, and providing email and telephone research assistance. In May 2009, the LA&M announced that International Mister Leather (IML) would be placed in a trust to benefit the museum. All proceeds from IML would go towards preserving leather history.

Das Leather Archives and Museum veröffentlicht themenspezifische Publikationen und richtet Informationsveranstaltungen und Ausstellungen zum Thema aus. Neben einer ständigen Ausstellung organisiert es Wechsel- und internationale Wanderausstellungen. Ein weiteres Hauptaufgabenbereich ist die Dokumentation der Geschichte der weltweiten Lederszene. Anthony (Tony) F. DeBlase entwickelte hierzu eine sogenannte Leather History Timeline die auch in in Druckform verlegt wurde. Die Einrichtung besitzt ein Auditorium mit 164 Sitzplätzen, einen Lesesaal mit Bibliothek, Büroräume für die dort Beschäftigten und ein professionelles, klimatisch kontrolliertes Archiv. Die in die Einrichtung integrierte Teri Rose Memorial Library verfügt über 5.000 themenbezogene Bände und rund 11.000 Zeitschriftenexemplare. Das LA&M unterhält eine europäische Koordination (Dependance) in Amsterdam.
