Payton also created the smooth, sharp jazz/pop hamonies for the Four Tops. Payton was born in Detroit, Michigan, USA and had 11 children. He died from cancer in 1997. His interment was located at Woodlawn Cemetery. His son Roquel Payton now sings with the Four Tops.
