- Latium, the cradle of Rome, consisted originally of the coastal plain from the mouth of the Tiber to the Circeian promontory, and its adjacent foothills. Its area constituted a part of the much larger modern Italian Regione of Lazio, also called Latium in Latin, and occasionally in modern English. The ancient language of the region was to become the basis of Latin. Latium has played an important role in history owing to its status as the cradle of the Roman Empire and the city of Rome. Consequently, it is home to celebrated works of art and architecture.
- Latium (Λατίνη) fou el nom donat pels romans a un districte a la regió central d'Itàlia entre la mar Tirrena al oest, Etrúria al nord, i Campània al sud. El seu nom derivava del poble dels latini i no al revès, encara que els escriptors clàssics ho feien derivar del rei Latinus, i existeixen moltes altres teories.
- El Latium fue una región histórico-geográfica constituida por la parte meridional del actual Lacio al sur del río Tíber, que le separaba de los territorios etruscos, la Etruria meridional (actual Lacio septentrional) y al norte del río Garellano que le separaba de Campania, limitado por la costa tirrenica, extendiéndose por las estribaciones de los Apeninos hacia el interior. Esta región fue ocupada a partir del 2000 a. C. aprox. por una serie de pueblos de estirpe indoeuropea entre los que los latinos, volscos, ecuos, ausonos y hérnicos fueron una de las ramas que se adentró en Italia (la otra estaba constituida por los Osco-umbros que aparecieron en la península más tarde, hacia el 1500 a. C.).
- Il Latium fu una regione storico-geografica costituita dalla parte meridionale dell'attuale Lazio, a sud del fiume Tevere, che lo divideva dai territori etruschi dell'Etruria meridionale (attuale Lazio settentrionale) e a nord del fiume Garigliano che lo divideva dalla Campania, limitato dalla costa tirrenica e esteso sulle propaggini degli Appennini verso l'interno. Questa regione fu occupata, a partire dal 2000 a.C. circa, da una serie di popolazioni di stirpe indoeuropea, tra cui i Latini, i Volsci, gli Equi, gli Ausoni e gli Ernici, che costituivano uno dei due rami della stirpe indoeuropea discesi in Italia (l'altro era costituito dagli Osco-Umbri, che scesero nella penisola più tardi, intorno al 1500 a.C.).
