Laodice was a sister of the king of Pontus Mithridates Eupator and the wife of Ariarathes VI, king of Cappadocia. After the death of her husband, who was assassinated by Gordius, at the instigation of Mithridates, in order to avoid a similar fate for herself and her two sons, she threw herself into the arms of Nicomedes III, king of Bithynia, whom she married, and put in possession of Cappadocia.

She was the mother of Ariarathes VII and Ariarathes VIII. Her father was Mithridates V of Pontus.

Als König Nikomedes III. von Bithynien die Grenzen ihres Landes überschritt, bat Laodike ihren Bruder Mithridates VI. um Unterstützung, doch Nikomedes III. überredete sie schnell zu einer Hochzeit mit ihm (um 101 v. Chr.). Laodike ging nun mit ihrer Tochter Nysa nach Bithynien. Mithridates VI. gab nun vor, seinen Neffen Ariarathes VII. beschützen zu wollen, beseitigte ihn aber bald persönlich. Auf die Bitte des Nikomedes III. reiste Laodike nun mit einem Jungen nach Rom, den sie als einen zweiten Sohn ihres ersten Gemahls Ariarathes VI. ausgab und damit als (angeblich) legitimen Thronfolger Kappadokiens, dessen Ansprüche der Senat aber nicht anerkannte.

Через некоторое время Митридат потребовал у нового царя, чтобы в Понт выслали его давнего соратника, Гордия. В ответ на отказ Ариарата VII выдать убийцу своего отца Митридат начал против него войну, а затем коварно убил.
