At Bayer's Extraordinary Stockholders' Meeting in November 2004 Bayer stockholders approved the separation of LANXESS from the Bayer Group as a spin-off, clearing the way for it to becoming listed as an independent company on the stock market. Bayer stockholders received one LANXESS share for every ten Bayer shares they owned. LANXESS has been listed as LXS. ETR on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange since January 31, 2005. The name is a portmanteau of "lancer", French verb for "launch", and the English word success, signifying confidence in the venturing enterprise.
