Lando IV was the last independent Lombard ruler in Italy. He was the prince of Capua after leading a local rebellion of the citizens of the city against the Norman prince Richard II, then a minor, in 1091. While Richard fled to Aversa, Lando ruled the reduced principality without much interference until 1098, when an adult Richard began to recruit allies to retake his capital and his principality.

With the aid of Roger Borsa, duke of Apulia, and Count Roger I of Sicily, Richard successfully besieged the city and retook it, doing homage to Roger Borsa. Lando's fate is unknown. With his removal, there would never again be a Lombard ruler in the Mezzogiorno, which had not seen one before him since Gisulf II of Salerno's end in 1078.
