Lago Ritom is a small lake in the Piora valley, Ticino, Switzerland. The natural lake is used as a reservoir by the Swiss Federal Railways to generate hydro-electric power for the Gotthard line. The first dam was built in 1918 and, in 1950, its height was increased by 23 m. The lake can be reached by funicular from Piotta 786 m below. The track with a length of 1369 m has a maximum inclination of 87.8%. The lake's surface area is 1.49 km² at an elevation of 1850 m.

- Der Lago Ritom ist ein Schweizer Speichersee im Pioratal (Val Piora) in der Gemeinde Quinto im Tessin. Der See ist auf glazigene Art entstanden und 1918 durch eine Staumauer zum Stausee erweitert worden. Diese Staumauer wurde 1950 auf eine Höhe von 23 m erweitert. Aufgrund des porösen Untergrunds im oberen Bereich ist diese Höhe aber nicht komplett nutzbar. Der Stausee dient zur Stromproduktion; das dazugehörige Kraftwerk gehört den SBB, welche damit Bahnstrom erzeugen. Der See ist über Bergwanderwege, eine Fahrstraße oder über eine sehr steile Standseilbahn zugänglich (max. 87,8 %). Bei der Staumauer befindet sich auch eine Unterkunft. Im ursprünglichen natürlichen See konnte das seltene Phänomen der geogenen Meromixis, d.h. die fehlende saisonale Durchmischung der verschiedenen Wasserschichten, beobachtet werden; dieses Phänomen verschwand nach dem Bau der Staumauer für die Energienutzung, heute kann es allerdings noch im benachbarten Lago di Cadagno beobachtet werden, wo es auch für die biologische Forschung von Interesse ist. - Il Lago Ritom è uno sbarramento idrico sito nella Valle di Piora nel comune di Quinto (Svizzera), nelle alpi Lepontine. Il nome deriva da uno dei suoi principali immissari il riale proveniente dal sovrastante lago di Tom. Il lago di formazione glaciale fu oggetto di un primo innalzamento nel 1918, con l'edificazione di un muro a sostegno di una strada. Venne ulteriormente innalzato nel 1950 con l'edificazione di uno sbarramento idrico di 23 metri di altezza che ne permise lo sfruttamento per la produzione di elettricità. L'eccessiva porosità della corona del lago non ne permette il completo riempimento. Con lo sbarramento venne costruita una condotta forzata che porta le acque alla centrale elettrica posta sul fondovalle. Questa elettricità è utilizzata dalle Ferrovie Federali Svizzere. Il lago è raggiungibile oltre che a piedi utilizzando le antiche mulattiere, anche in macchina, utilizzando una strada carrozzabile o utilizzando la funicolare che è stata edificata lungo la condotta forzata. L'antico lago probabilmente presentava le stesse condizione di Meromissi crenogenica ancora oggi presenti nel vicino lago di Cadagno, ne sarebbe una testimonianza il fatto che durante l'edificazione di manufatti della diga, degli operai perirono per aver bevuto acqua del lago.
