- Lady Sybil Deidre Olgivanna Vimes (née Ramkin), Duchess of Ankh, is a character in Terry Pratchett’s Discworld novels. First introduced in Guards! Guards!, she is a rather imposing Wagnerian aristocrat. Sybilis is a kind-hearted and compassionate person, embodying the positive aspects of aristocrats that are otherwise uncommonly depicted in Ankh-Morpork's population. She is deeply gracious and able to like almost anyone. She was born into the wealthiest family in Ankh-Morpork and resides in the most select part of Ankh, Scoone Avenue. She has a dragon pen outside her house where she breeds and cares for swamp dragons, hence her name, though aside from her hobby most of her house is vaguely under-tended due to apparent disinterest. She also supports The Sunshine Sanctuary for sick, abused or abandoned swamp dragons in the city, which is run by her friend Rosie Devant-Molei. Her hobby has left her with her natural hair singed off and she wears a wig in nearly all circumstances. Despite her high-class upbringing she has displayed a resourcefulness (in an outdoorsy kind of way) that attracted the attention of Sam Vimes, the Commander of the Ankh-Morpork City Watch, to whom she is currently married. The pattern of Sam and Sybil's marriage was set the moment he turned away from his wedding to chase an assassin who had just made an attempt on the Patrician's life. Lady Sybil is a remarkably patient woman; she spent nearly the entirety of The Fifth Elephant attempting to inform her increasingly distracted husband that she was pregnant with their first child. Though he finds being affectionate in public embarrassing and is divided on disliking Sybil's status as a noble, it is clear that Vimes loves his wife dearly; indeed when he was trapped in the past alone in a world he no longer recognised, the History Monks gave him a silver cigar case his wife had bought him to inspire him to continue with his mission. However, it is not entirely clear whether his hatred of crime and the evil of humanity is greater than his love for his wife. Sybil bears this divided loyalty with some grace; however, nearly every Watch novel concludes with Sam making some form of amends to his neglected wife, either a delayed honeymoon, or simply time alone with their new baby. In spite (or perhaps because) of to her wealth, Sybil's engages in certain 'housewife'-like activities such as repairing socks and preparing meals. This is mainly out of a sense of duty and tradition than actual need or skill. Sam is somewhat baffled by the overtures, though as he is already used to an imperfect lifestyle is generally appreciative of the sentiment. She donated her childhood home, Pseudopolis Yard, to the Watch after their original headquarters was burnt by a dragon. She is an amateur soprano, and also enjoys spending time with Vimes when he is not on the job (which is very rare because there is always crime in Ankh-Morpork and crime does not take a rest whenever Vimes does). Sybil maintains a number of close (female) social contacts from her schooldays, which, thanks to the kind of school she went to, are now strategically placed in the highest levels of power across the Sto Plains and often more powerful than Ankh-Morpork Guild leaders. Vimes once conjectures that if they so conspired, they could run the world, if they don't already. Since Night Watch, she has a son with her husband Sam, called Young Sam. The birth was difficult and nearly led to her death, but she was saved by the intervention of Doctor Lawn. After receiving an astronomical fee for this service, Lawn went on to found the Lady Sybil Free Hospital. Her name was twice misspelled as Sibyl in Thud!

Lady Sibyla nepatří mezi křehké ženy zahalené v krajkách. Naopak, už na první pohled vzbuzuje respekt, jak svým výrazem, tak postavou (je, jak se říká, „dobře stavěná“). A častěji než večerní róby nosí speciální ochranný oblek, který potřebuje při práci s draky. Je potomkem starobylého aristokratického rodu Berankinů a jako taková patří k nejbohatším lidem ve městě. Zdálo by se, že ji tato skutečnost předurčuje k životu v přepychu (a snad i k výhodnému sňatku s bohatým šlechticem). To však, stejně jako účast na všemožných plesech, bere lady Sibyla hlavně jako povinnost. Mnohem raději se totiž věnuje své největší vášni, drakům. Stará se o „Sluneční svatyni chorých draků“, útulek pro ztracené, zatoulané či opuštěné bahenní draky. Právě díky drakům se lady Sibyla seznámila s (tehdy ještě kapitánem) Samem Elániem, který pátral po obrovském drakovi usídlivším se ve městě. Po nějaké době se lady Sibyla a Sam vzali a aby manžel nejbohatší ženy v Ankh-Morporku nebyl pouhým kapitánem, stal se brzy velitelem celé Městské hlídky. Zanedlouho se jim taky narodil synek, malý Samík.

Sibyl Ramkin est issue d’une des plus anciennes familles aristocratiques d’Ankh-Morpork, dont elle est une des dernières survivantes, et est la femme la plus riche de la ville : elle possède un dixième d’Ankh, de grandes propriétés à Morpork et d’immenses terres cultivables, ce qui lui rapporte sept millions de piastres l’an. La devise familiale est Non sumet nullus pro responso et le blason représente un dragon de sinople gardant et passant surmonté de trois barreaux de sable brochant. C’est une grande dame imposante, coiffée d’une masse de cheveux châtains, maintenant sous forme de perruque, décantation d’une longue lignée d’individus à la santé solide et à l’ossature robuste. Elle est forte, aimable et d’une franchise confondante. Jusqu’à une âge assez tardif, elle vivait seule dans le manoir familial, une vieille maison agréable dotée de jardins biens dessinés dus à un ancêtre qui tira une flèche dans la jambe de Bougre-de-Sagouin Jeanson un jour où il voulait s'engager dans l'allée de la maison. Elle n’en utilisait que trois chambres, sur les trente-quatre de la demeure, servie par le vieux Villequin, le majordome de la famille. Elle a consacré toute sa vie et sa chevelure à l’élevage d’une trentaine de dragons des marais, auxquels elle voue une affection bien peu compréhensible, dans un enclos derrière la maison. Elle gère en outre le Sanctuaire du Soleil pour dragons malades et a publié, à compte d’auteur, plusieurs ouvrages sur les affections de ces étranges animaux. Elle rencontre sur le tard le commissaire divisionnaire Samuel Vimaire, au cours d’une enquête de ce dernier sur la réapparition d’un authentique dragon dans le ciel urbain, avec qui elle se marie assez rapidement. Dès lors une armée de jardiniers s’occupe de la maison qui était dans un état de délabrement incroyable et Dame Ramkin refait surface dans la haute société morporkienne. Les deux époux ont eu un enfant, Samuel Vimaire junior, qui occupe le temps que Dame Ramkin accordait à ses dragons. Elle apparaît dans les romans suivants (liste à compléter) : Au guet ! Ее семья владела десятой частью Анк-Морпорка и обширными фермерскими землями. Имущество приносит доход в 7 миллионов анк-морпоркских долларов в год. До рождения сына много времени посвящала разведению болотных драконов и приюту для больных драконов. Написала и издала несколько книг, посвященных болезням, которым они подвержены, и их лечению. В книге «Опочтарение» упоминается Бесплатный госпиталь имени леди Сибиллы, уже не для драконов, в котором «пациенты даже иногда выживают».
