On February 16, 1970 he became a Pracharak (full time worker) of the Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh (RSS) . He resigned the Government job to become a Pracharak (full-time worker) of RSS on 16.02.1970. He began his RSS Pracharak life as Nagar Pracharak of Nagercoil Town Unit. Till May, 31st 1970 he held this position. From June 1, 1970 till June lst 1972 he was Tirunelveli Town Pracharak. From June 1972 he became Madurai Zilla (District) Convenor of RSS. June 1974 saw him get elevated as Madurai Vibhag Pracharak (Convenor of the area stretching from Palani to Kanyakumari down south). During the draconian Emergency which was clamped in 1975 for 20 long months he lead an underground life while continuing his work of educating the people on the undemocratic measures of Smt. Indira Gandhi and the need to resist the same. He was in the list of people to be arrested under MISA and carried a reward on his head for information about his whereabouts. In 1977 Emergency was lifted. June 1978 saw him become Prantha Bouthik Pramukh (State In-charge responsible for evolving policies and preparing related literature). He later became Prantha Vyavastha Pramukh. (State in-charge of Planning). From 1988 to February 1991 he held the position of Saha Prantha Pracharak (Joint Organizer of the State Unit of RSS) concentrating in the area stretching from Trichy to Kanyakumari. In 1991 Shri La. Ganesan became the State General Secretary in-charge of organisation of Tamilnadu BJP. When Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu became National President Shri La. Ganesan was inducted in his team as National Secretary. During his stint as General Secretary of the Party in Tamilnadu Shri La. Ganesan has spear-headed the growth of the party to significant heights. In RSS there are levels of specialised training. In 1959 Shri La. Ganesan completed his Ist level training. In 1968 and 1969 he completed the 2nd and 3rd level training respectively. Shri La. Ganesan, besides being a powerful orator, is a very good writer and poet as well. He has penned several patriotic songs and has authored articles on issues of National importance and concern. He is a master organizer as well. He is a man with quick wit and sharp reflexes.
