It is estimated that around 5,000 people compose the Krashovani community in Romania. At the 2002 census, only 207 persons identified as Krashovans at a national level. The vast majority identify today as Croatian.

Die Mehrzahl der Volksgruppenangehörigen identifiziert sich heute als Kroaten. Die Kraschowaner bilden eine Mehrheit in zwei Gemeinden des Kreises Caraş-Severin: in Caraşova und Lupac.

Hun geloof is het oosters-orthodoox en ze spreken het Torlakisch dialect. Ze komen oorspronkelijk uit Oost-Servië, uit het gebied rond de Timok-rivier. De Krasjovanen zijn rond het jaar 1370 naar Caraşova geïmmigreerd na de inval van de Ottomanen in Servië. In die tijd behoorde Caraşova tot Hongarije, dat in die tijd een katholieke staat was.

La recensământul din 2002, doar 207 persoane s-au declarat caraşoveni. . (în 1992 s-au declarat 2.775 persoane). Majoritatea caraşovenilor preferă astăzi să se declare "croaţi".
