The Kodavas, anglicised as Coorgs) are an ethnic group from the region of Kodagu, in Karnataka state of southern India. They were traditionally a land owning agricultural community with martial traditions and natively speak Kodava takk. The Kodavas have a well defined military tradition during the course of their recorded history and hence they are regarded as Kshatriya. They are a Hindu sect who revere nature and their ancestors rather than following strict Vedic principles.
