Jungle Emperor, known in the United States as Kimba the White Lion, is a Japanese anime series from the 1960s. Created by Osamu Tezuka and based on his manga of the same title which began publication in 1950, it was the first color animated television series created in Japan. The entire series of manga was first published in serialized form in Manga Shōnen magazine.

Produced in commemoration of Fuji TV's 50th anniversary, it was directed by Gorō Taniguchi in his first directorial venture since Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2, written by noted novelist and drama writer Osamu Suzuki, and featuring character designs from noted illustrator Yoshitaka Amano.

Il s'est vu décliné par son créateur en deux séries télévisées animées (chanson notoire interprétée par Isabelle Pierre) de 26 épisodes en 1965 et 1966, suivies d'un Anime. Puis d'une troisième série de 26 épisodes, produite en 1967 sous le nom de Shin Janguru Taitei Susume Reo. En 1989, année de la mort de Tezuka, une nouvelle série en 52 épisodes fait son apparition. Le réalisateur Yoshio Takeuchi en réalise un nouvel Anime en 1997, trois années seulement après le succès planétaire du Roi Lion de Disney, en partie inspiré de l'œuvre de Tezuka. Une pétition signée par 1100 fans, artistes et dessinateurs de mangas fut adressée à Disney en 1994 pour protester contre l'adaptation sans autorisation du travail de Tezuka. En effet, Le Roi Lion, l'un des plus gros succès au box-office de tous les temps serait en partie inspiré du Roi Léo, sans que Disney ne le reconnaisse.
