Granata held an additional academic appointment as a professor in the Virginia Tech-Wake Forest School of Biomedical Engineering and was an adjunct professor at the University of Virginia in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery. A victim of the Virginia Tech massacre, he died protecting students after he shepherded them into his office in order to safeguard them, and after he went to investigate and intervene. Kevin P. Granata war ein US-amerikanischer Biomechaniker. Kevin Granata erwarb 1984 an der Ohio State University einen Bachelor-Abschluss in Biomechanik. 1986 schloss er einen Aufbaustudiengang als Master an der Purdue University ab. 1993 promovierte er in Biomechanik, erneut an der Ohio State University. Granata entwickelte sich zum Experten für orthopädische Forschung. Seit 2005 lehrte er als Associate Professor an der Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University („Virginia Tech“) in Blacksburg die mechanischen Grundlagen von Muskelreflexen und Robotertechnik. Er gehörte zu den führenden Vertretern seines Faches in den USA und war Mitherausgeber der wissenschaftlichen Zeitschriften Journal of Applied Biomechanics und Journal of Electromyography & Kinesiology.
