Kent Tong received actor training from the TVB Artist Training Class, and proceeded on to act for TVB, where he made his name known. Although he has appeared in over a dozen movies, he is mostly known for his work in various television series, such as Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils. His most remembered roles are princes and villains. During the 1980s, Kent Tong, along with Tony Leung Chiu-Wai, Andy Lau, Miu Kiu Wai and Felix Wong, made up the "Five Tiger Generals of TVB", who were the most popular male actors of TVB at the time. Despite his successes in the early 1980s, he personal life was encumbered with obstacles. After the suicide of his then girlfriend, popular TVB actress Barbara Yung（翁美玲), in 1985, allegedly over issues with their relationship, his popularity among the Hong Kong audience waned. He is no longer active in the TV industry in Hong Kong, and becomes a businessman working in Mainland China.
