Kelli Young was a member of British pop group, Liberty X which consisted of herself, Tony Lundon, Kevin Simm, Michelle Heaton, and Jessica Taylor. She went to Derby High School, Littleover, until she was 16, when she moved to London. Liberty X was formed by the rejects from reality TV programme Popstars. The winners formed the short-lived group Hear'Say. Liberty X stayed together longer than the 'winning' group.

Further success followed with singles such as "Got To Have Your Love" and "Song 4 Lovers". Young co-wrote some of Liberty X's singles, as well as several of their album tracks. She also appeared in the video for "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy" with the FHM Hot 100. Young starred in the ITV show Britain Sings Christmas in 2007, performing a cover version of Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You".
