In 2004, Beattie was the subject of media attention when he claimed to be the only living samurai outside of Japan, as one of only eight foreigners to have ever been awarded the title, however this is disputed by martial arts enthusiasts. Beattie won the World Full Contact Martial Arts Champion title when he knocked out the previously undefeated champion Tiji Fukura. Karl Beattie started his career in television on the set of BBC’s live children’s show Parallel 9 as a camera assistant. He was quickly snapped up by an outside broadcast company, Visions, and trained there as a cameraman. Karl has worked on some of the top television shows in Britain: Gladiators, Blind Date, TFI Friday, Robot Wars, Disney, Jim Henson, and the World Music Awards to name but a few. His music credits speak for themselves: Madonna’s Frozen video, Motown Mania, Sting, Elton John, Paul McCartney, Whitney Houston, Oasis, Blur, Pulp, Michael Jackson to name some of the people he has covered, he is no stranger to festivals Glastonbury, Reading, Phoenix and Brighton. Karl wanted to experience all the different types of television so he even went to Bosnia. Whilst in the theatre of conflict Karl was taken hostage by insurgent forces with his broadcast colleagues. They were later released without harm. However Karl still maintains that "all the haunted locations in the World put together, would not be a fraction as terrifying and traumatic as that experience". As Karl’s background was that of outside broadcast he has amounted 1000’s of hours of live broadcast in all television genre from sport to music, current affairs to light entertainment. It was working on a live show, BBC’s City Hospital, that Karl met Yvette Fielding. They were engaged within 6 weeks and married within 6 months. YouTube Video Karl’s expertise does not only lie in television, he started martial arts training under the legendary Otsu Maeda Sensei at the age of 7 and was the world traditional full contact martial arts champion. He won the title in 1994 after knocking out the then undefeated champion Tiju Fukura, he has never been beaten and holds an impressive record of 85 official fights, 85 wins, 75 KO’s. He holds the 4th dan in Ryukyu Kempo and Wado Ryu Karate, a master swordsman and trained extensively in Goju Ryu, Iaido, Aikido, Jujitsu, Wing Chun and Silum Kung Fu. Karl is a deeply spiritual man, which is reflected in his current work making some of the Worlds best loved paranormal programming. Producing groundbreaking series such as Most Haunted and Most Haunted Live as well as the Ghost Hunting With series. Karl first found an interest in spirituality and a connection with the natural World, whilst living with native American Indians of the Ojibwe tribe in the Canadian wilderness of Ontario. A little known fact about Karl; in the advent year of the UK National Lottery, Karl had a winning ticket. The ticket itself however was actually devoured whole, by his beloved alsatian dog Billy, who is sadly now deceased.
