Julian Croft is an Australian poet. He was raised in Newcastle, New South Wales and educated there at Newcastle Boy's High School and Newcastle University, where he completed a Master of Arts. His MA research was on Kenneth Slessor and Fitzgerald. Croft travelled in Africa and Europe before returning to Australia. Then he worked as a lecturer at the University of New England from 1970 to his retirement in 2002.

Croft is also a novelist and a researcher of Australian literature, Anglo-Welsh poetry, West African literature, Australian film, and American literature. Croft's study of the Australian novelist Joseph Furphy won the McCrae Russell prize in 1991.
