Joseph Stanton, Jr. was an American politician of the Anti-Federalist faction. Stanton was born in Charlestown, Rhode Island in 1739. He served in the state legislature from 1768 to 1774. During the American Revolutionary War, he was a colonel in the Rhode Island militia. After the war, he served as a general in the state militia. He was a delegate to the Rhode Island Constitutional convention in 1790, and as a U.S. Senator from 7 June 1790 to 3 March 1793.
