She combines vocal melody with narrative and urban "found sound" to do what she describes as "recreating the sonic context of characters". She has been nominated three times for a New Zealand Music Award and released five CDs with the assistance of Creative New Zealand, the New Zealand arts council. She performed with a live band between 1999 and 2005 which she called "Dr Kevorkian & the Suicide Machine". Two of her CDs were also recorded under this moniker, which gained her attention and a following internationally in the darkwave music scene. In 2003, Reyne bought a one-way ticket to Germany and hitch-hiked around the country recording ambient sounds on her MiniDisc recorder and computer. The results of her experiences on this journey was the 2004 album Passenger. In November 2004, Reyne began a two month residence in Karamea funded by the New Zealand Department of Conservation. She used this time to work on songs inspired by the life of Susannah Hawes, an Englishwoman who emigrated to Karamea in 1874. These songs will form the backbone of her fifth album How The Dead Live. Jordan relocated to Germany in March 2006 to pursue opportunities in the German music scene. She is currently living in Hamburg. In 2009, Reyne announced that she was suspending her music career to concentrate on her writing. She is currently working on two novels.
