He studied for a degree in American Studies at the University of Reading which included a semester at the University of Texas, at Austin. After graduating in 1997 Jon spent a year in South Korea, teaching English as a foreign language. Returning to the UK in 1998, Jon Smith worked for a number of Internet companies including Amazon. co. uk and Kitbag.
