Rigby, a forward, began his career with Norwich City, where he won a FA Youth Cup winner's medal in 1983. He made 10 appearances for the Norwich first team (without scoring) and after playing in Finland for Kuopion Pallosuera he played for Aldershot and Cambridge United. After retiring from the professional game due to a pelvic injury, Rigby played non-league football in Norfolk.
