Admiral of the Fleet Sir John Henry Dacres Cunningham GCB, MVO was the Royal Navy First Sea Lord from 1946 to 1948. A qualified senior navigator, he was for a time an instructor at the Royal Navy navigation school. He was also Director of Plans at Admiralty House and later served as the Commander-in-Chief of the Mediterranean Fleet during the Second World War. (John Cunningham should not be confused with his predecessor in more than one role, Andrew Cunningham.)
