Johan Baazius the younger was born in Jönköping July 171626 as the a son of a knowledgeable theologian and bishop of Växjö. He was Archbishop of Uppsala in the Church of Sweden from 1677 to his death on May 12, 1681. He was himself known as knowledgeable already at a young age.

He was Archbishop of Uppsala in the Church of Sweden from 1677 to his death on May 12, 1681. He was himself known as knowledgeable already at a young age. After further studies in Uppsala University, Königsberg University (Królewiec University) and some other universities, mainly in Germany, he was appointed teacher for the nephew of the Lord High Chancellor Peter Brahe. In 1653 he was also made court chaplain by Queen Christina. After this he held various offices, for instance as bishop of Växjö from 1667, bishop of Skara 1673, and finally archbishop of Uppsala 1677. He died suddenly in his sleep after returning from a visit to Stockholm. Besides being knowledgeable, he was also known as a pious man who was serious about his duties.

  • Johannes Baazius d.y. , född 13 juli 1626 i Jönköping, död 12 maj 1681 i Stockholm. Ärkebiskop. Johannes Baazius d.y. var son till biskopen i Växjö Joannes Baazius d. ä. i dennes andra gifte med Birgitta Eriksdotter. Efter studier vid gymnasiet i Linköping 1640 och vid universitetet i Dorpat 1642 skrevs han in vid Uppsala universitet 1643. Därefter vidtog studier vid de tyska universiteten i Königsberg 1646 och i Greifswald 1647. Som informatör till Per Brahes brorson Nils Brahe kom Baazius åter till Uppsala. Efter ytterligare besök vid tyska universitet 1650-1652 uppvaktade han Per Brahe och erhöll kyrkoherdetjänsten i Skärstad men tillträdde aldrig då han strax därefter kallades till hovpredikant hos drottning Kristina. Han stannade vid hovet under Karl X Gustav och Ulrika Eleonora. Därefter kyrkoherde i Vingåker 1659 för att bli utnämnd till biskop i Växjö 27/7 1667. Biskop i Skara 11/12 1673. Ärkebiskop i Uppsala 23/5 1677 till sin död 1681. Baazius krönte 1680 Karl XI:s gemål Ulrika Eleonora. I april 1681 kallades han av konungen till huvudstaden och reste trots sjukdom till Stockholm. Kvällen före Kristi Himmelsfärd intog han en måltid tillsammans med konungen och sedan han återkommit till sin värd, kyrkoherden vid Riddarholmskyrkan, ska han till denne önskat godnatt med orden; "I morgon skola vi i Guds namn fara med Kristo till himla". Morgonen därpå fann man ärkebiskopen död i sin säng. Under tiden vid hovet väckte Baazius beundran som en beläst och sansad man. Gift med Elsa Honthera, från den s.k. Bureätten, ättling till ärkebiskop Nicolaus Olai Bothniensis.
