Jiangnan people also known as Wuyue people are a subgroup of the Han Chinese (also known as the ethnic Chinese). Jiangnan people are a subset of Wu-speaking peoples. They are a Taihu Wu Chinese-speaking people who hail from southern Jiangsu province, the city of Shanghai, and northern Zhejiang province, as well as smaller populations in southern Anhui province and northern Jiangxi province. Though there are other linguistic minorities in Jiangnan, such as those who speak Jianghuai Mandarin.
