Vossen is van nature een offensieve middenvelder, maar kan ook als spits of hangende spits worden uitgespeeld. Hij wordt algemeen genomen beschouwd als aanvaller. Vossen wordt bij Genk gezien als het voorbeeld van de goede jeugdwerking. Hij is een van de zovele jeugdspelers die bij Genk zijn opgeleid, net als o.a. Steven Defour, Faris Haroun, Wouter Vandermieren, Robin Henkens en David Hubert. In het voetbalseizoen van 2006-2007 scoorde hij tegen KSV Roeselare in een invalbeurt; dat was zijn eerste goal op het hoogste niveau. In mei 2009 werd hij door de Belgische bondscoach Franky Vercauteren opgenomen in de selectie voor de Kirin Cup. Hij maakte zijn debuut voor de Rode Duivels op 29 mei 2009 tegen Chili. Op 31 augustus 2009 werd hij voor één seizoen uitgeleend aan Cercle Brugge.
