In February 2007, he accepted the head football coaching position at Santa Rita High School, also in Tucson, a school whose varsity football team went 0-10 in the 2006 season.

Joshua Scurran (b. 1975), his son, is an export specialist at Raytheon Missile Systems, also in Tucson.
