In den USA ist der Compass auch als Fronttriebler erhältlich und damit der erste Jeep dieser Art. In Deutschland hingegen werden die Compass-Modelle ausschließlich mit dem Freedom Drive I genannten Allradantrieb ausgeliefert. Als Motor steht für alle Modelle ein 2,4-l-R4-Benzin-Motor zur Verfügung, welcher 125 kW (170 PS) liefert. Die Kraftübertragung erfolgt über ein manuelles Fünfgang-Getriebe oder optional über ein CVT-Getriebe. Auf dem europäischen Markt ist der Compass darüber hinaus mit einem Turbodiesel von Volkswagen in Verbindung mit einem manuellem Sechsgang-Getriebe erhältlich. Der Wendekreis beträgt bei den mit 17 Zoll Felgen ausgestatteten Modellen 10,80 m und bei den mit 18-Zoll-Felgen ausgestatteten Modellen 11,30 m. Der cw-Wert liegt bei 0,4.
