Jeanne of Valois was the only surviving child of Charles, Duke of Orléans and Isabella of Valois. Isabella in turn had been the queen-consort of Richard II of England, a childless marriage. Charles would later remarry and become the father of the Louis XII of France through his third wife, Marie of Cleves. Jeanne married John II of Alençon in 1424, but they remained childless. She died in 1432, leaving him free to later marry Marie of Armagnac.
