Jeanne Mance was a French settler of New France and one of the founders of Montreal and the first hospital in North America, the Hôtel-Dieu de Montréal. She built the hospital to care for injured settlers hurt by Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) raiding parties. Jeanne devoted her life to religion.
