Jay DeMarcus is the bassist, harmony vocalist, and song writer in the American country trio Rascal Flatts. DeMarcus was born in Columbus, Ohio. He is a second cousin of the band's lead singer Gary LeVox, as well as brother-in-law of country singer James Otto. Jay was a graduate of Tree of Life Christian School in Columbus, OH, while living with mother Caron and his sister Tiffany. Jay also has a half sister on his father Stanley Wayne DeMarcus Sr's side as well.

At the time, he traveled and performed as a keyboardist in the Christian music group New Harvest, led by Danny Murray. Later, DeMarcus became a member of another Christian music group, called East to West. Jay was later a band leader for Chely Wright, eventually he met Joe Don who is now the groups other member; he called Joe Don up to fill in for a guitarist who was gone from the band one night. Jay also played and sang backup for Michael English for several years in the late 1990s. In addition to being a part of Rascal Flatts, Jay also has a career as a record producer. He has produced sides for Michael English, James Otto, Jo Dee Messina and others. He produced the 2006 release for the legendary rock band Chicago) titled, Chicago XXX. On May 15, 2004, DeMarcus wed Allison Alderson, a former beauty queen who has held the titles Miss Tennessee 1999 and Miss Tennessee USA 2002. DeMarcus met Alderson on the set while filming the video for the Rascal Flatts song, "These Days".
