Johan George (Jan) Nagel (born June 20, 1939 in Amsterdam) is a Dutch politician first of the Labour Party, and later for his own formed parties. Currently for the Pensioners' Party 50PLUS. He started his career in his twenties on the VARA-Radio where he worked as producer. At the same time he served as a member of the executive committee of the Dutch Labour Party. Nagel was one of the creators of the radio-program called In de Rooie Haan.

He also created the famous program De Kloof. Preoccupied with the problem of the widening gap between the politics and the people he founded in 1993 a local party called Leefbaar Hilversum. Soon after, in 2001, he established Leefbaar Nederland where he worked with Henk Westbroek, Willem van Kooten, Ton Luiting, Broos Schnetz and Pim Fortuyn. He has also been Leefbaar Nederland's party chairman. In 2005 followed another initiative: Party for Justice, Action and Progress which he founded together with the former spokesman for the police Klaas Wilting, entrepreneur Peter C. Schouten and the party’s first lijsttrekker reporter Peter R. de Vries. As a skilful strategist Nagel is often referred to as Rasputin of the Labour Party or Machiavelli of Hilversum. His autobiography Boven het maaiveld was published in 2001 with anecdotes from the Hague politics and the ever-changing world of mass media. In January 2011 Nagel launched a new party 50PLUS to participate in the Provincial States elections of 2 March 2011. Provincial States members will be electors of the Senators of the First Chamber and Nagel announced to head the Senate list of 50PLUS. 50PLUS won a sufficient amount of votes to get Nagel a seat in the Senate's staged elections that will conclude on 23 May 2011.

Schouten en (als lijsttrekker) Peter R. de Vries, een andere partij: de Partij voor Rechtvaardigheid, Daadkracht en Vooruitgang. Toen deze partij volgens peilingen onvoldoende kiezers bleek aan te spreken, werd ze opgeheven. In 2009 maakte hij deel uit van de initiatiefnemers voor een politieke partij, de OokU geheten. Deze trachtte kiezers te werven met een pleidooi voor geleidelijke hypotheekrente-aftrek. De partij deed niet mee aan de Tweede Kamerverkiezingen in juni 2010, omdat zij nog onvoldoende middelen had om campagne te voeren. Begin 2011 kwam Nagel met het bericht dat OokU haar naam verandert in 50Plus en ook mee zal doen aan de Provinciale Statenverkiezingen 2011, om hopelijk een of meerdere Eerste Kamerzetels te bemachtigen. Bij die verkiezingen behaalde die partij genoeg zetels in de provincies voor één zetel in de Eerste Kamer en keert Jan Nagel, die bovenaan de Eerste Kamer kandidatenlijst van 50Plus staat, terug in de Eerste Kamer. In 2001 verscheen zijn autobiografie Boven het maaiveld. Dit boek bevat o.a. anekdotes uit de Haagse politiek en de omroepwereld.
