  • Michael (James) Whale is an English broadcaster for radio and television. Whale has won three Sony Radio Awards, and October 2007 saw the publication of his autobiography Almost a Celebrity: A Lifetime of Night-Time. Whale first gained national attention in the late 1980s and early 1990s presenting The James Whale Radio Show, an irreverent and controversial late night entertainment show produced by Yorkshire Television for ITV, but he is more recently known for the late night radio show he presented on TalkSport from 1995 until 2008, when he was infamously sacked for calling on his listeners to vote for Boris Johnson in the London mayoral election. He is currently presenting on bid tv and the weekday drive time slot on LBC. The song "Radio Free Whale" by The Atomic Planets was a tribute to Whale. Since they could not legally obtain his voice, the sound of an adult humpback is used as a pun.
