James S. Calhoun (1802 – 1852) was Governor of New Mexico Territory from 1851 to 1852. Calhoun was a member of Georgia state legislature in 1830. He was a mayor of Columbus, Georgia from 1838 to 1839. He became a member of Georgia state senate from 1838 to 1840 and in 1845. He was U.S. Consul in Havana from 1841 to 1842; He was a colonel in the U.S. Army during the Mexican War. He was appointed Governor of New Mexico Territory in 1850 by U.S. President Millard Fillmore.
