Sir James Drummond Bone FRSA is a British academic. He has been the Vice Chancellor of the University of Liverpool since 1 September 2002, and has recently announced that he will be retiring from that position in September 2008. He is the chairman of the Liverpool Culture Company. Previously he was the President of Universities UK, Principal of Royal Holloway College and pro-vice-Chancellor of the University of London.

In 2008 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. James Drummond Bone was educated at the University of Glasgow and the University of Oxford. Professor Bone was knighted in the 2008 Birthday Honours for services to Higher Education and the regeneration of the North-West.
