The production version of the XF debuted at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show, and customer deliveries commenced in March 2008. In January 2008, the XF was awarded the prestigious What Car? Er ist der Nachfolger des Jaguar S-Type und feierte im September 2007 Premiere auf der IAA in Frankfurt. Seit dem 8. März 2008 wird das Modell auf dem deutschen Markt angeboten. Vom Design setzt der XF auf moderne coupéartigen Formen, statt des bekannten Retrostylings des S-Types. Technisch orientiert sich der XF weitgehend an dem Coupé XK. So wurden Bodengruppe, Fahrwerk, Antrieb und zahlreiche Komponenten vom Jaguar XK übernommen. Der XF ist in drei verschiedenen Ausstattungen verfügbar: Luxury, Premium Luxury und SV8. Der Luxury ist mit V6-Twin-Turbodiesel lieferbar, der Premium Luxury mit dem gleichen Diesel, dem V6 oder einem V8-Saugmotor. Den SV8 gibt es nur in Kombination mit Kompressor-V8-Motor. Im Interieur gibt es im XF einige Neuerungen wie die drehbaren Lüftungsdüsen der Klimaautomatik, den Touchscreen-Monitor und den neuen JaguarDrive Selector. Die Gangstufen des Automatikgetriebes werden hierbei über einen großen Rundcontroller eingelegt, der sich beim Start aus der Mittelkonsole erhebt. Beim Designwettbewerb red dot bekam der Jaguar XF den red dot design award verliehen.

Il motore di minor cubatura è il V6 common rail biturbodiesel di 2720cc da 207cv e 435 N·m di coppia a 1.900 giri d'origine Ford-PSA, mentre il più grande è il V8 a benzina di 4196cc, disponibile sia in versione aspirata (298cv e 411 N·m a 4.100 giri) che sovralimentata con compressore volumetrico (416cv e 560 N·m a 3.500 giri). Alla base della gamma a benzina si pone il V6 aspirato di 2967cc da 238cv e 293 N·m a 4.100 giri. Gli allestimenti disponibili sono tre: Luxury (3.0 V6 e 2.7D V6), Premium Luxury (3.0 V6; 4.2 V8 e 2.7D V6) e SV8 (4.2 V8 con compressore volumetrico). Tutte le versioni dispongono delle principali dotazioni di sicurezza e di comfort (servosterzo idraulico a gestione elettronica, climatizzatore automatico, cambio automatico-sequenziale a 6 rapporti di ultima generazione a comandi digitali anziché meccanici. Nonostante sia un modello di rottura, la XF sta riscuotendo ampi consensi, tanto che, proprio nel momento in cui la Jaguar viene venduta dalla Ford alla Tata Group, il portafoglio ordini è corposo ed i tempi d'attesa lunghi.
