Being a close associate of S. Harcharan Singh Ajnala and S. Beant Singh (Former Chief Minister of Punjab who joined congress in 1970s) he was nominated as the Chairman of Market committee in 1970's and remained chairman for 21 years. Though he was allured by Shiromani Akal Dal(Badal) by S. Prakash Singh Badal himself to join SAD(B) after the demise of S. Beant Singh (His Political Guru) and S. Harcharan Singh Ajnala (his close associate) but he always was adamant to be the part of the Congress as he had full faith in the Congress Leadership. Though sidelined in those days he decided to stay back in Congress and has been a loyal worker of the party all through his carrer. Now that he has retired form Active politics, his sons Sh. Dharambir Sareen and Sh. Kuldip Raj Sareen tend to take his political legacy ahead and serve the people with same zeal and passion as he did. His mass base in rural Ajnala is still a very known fact and serve the people of Ajnala even today at the age of 88.
