John Charles Rowe was a baseball player for the Buffalo Bisons of the National League (1879-1885), Detroit Wolverines (1886-1888), Pittsburgh Alleghenys (1889), and the Buffalo Bisons of the Players League (1890). His brother, Dave Rowe, also played and managed in the Majors. Rowe began his career as a catcher, but switched to primarily a shortstop in 1885. He hit for the cycle on August 21, 1886. Jack suffered a nervous breakdown and died at the age of 54.
