Ivan Smagghe is a French DJ and producer. He was originally known as Ivan Rough Trade, after his job in the Rough Trade record store in Paris. His musical style has been described as electrohouse and "minimal electro.". Smagghe's Death Disco compilation was a key release in the electroclash genre. He formed Black Strobe in 1997 with Arnaud Rebotini, but left in 2006. Black Strobe describe their dark electronic sound as "frozen balearic gay biker house".

Il se consacre ensuite à ses prestations de DJ (entre autres pour Radio Nova) et publie plusieurs mixes sous son nom. Ses performances au club Pulp, résolument fantômatiques et puissantes sont restées dans les mémoires pour sa capacité à faire apprécier et danser le public avec un bon son groove qui tabasse particulièrement efficace: quand c'est ivan, c'est bon, ca tabasse. Depuis 1997, en duo avec Arnaud Rebotini (lui aussi ex-vendeur pour Rough Trade), il produisait également des albums sous le nom de Black Strobe. Le 19 avril 2007, plusieurs sites annoncent son départ de Black Strobe, semblant ne plus trouver sa place dans un groupe s'étant orienté vers une formation electro-rock plus « classique », pour se consacrer à sa carrière de DJ. * Un album, Burn your own church (Brûle ta propre église) est sorti en juin 2007. Sa réputation de dénicheur de sons en a fait un chroniqueur irrégulier de Bernard Lenoir.
