Irinjalakuda has prestigious performing arts institutes like the Unnayi Varrier Smaraka Kalanilayam, Ammannur Gurukulam and Natana Kairali, besides the Yajurveda Patashala that gives training in Vedic rituals. In the present times it has groomed Malayalam authors like K. Satchidanandan, Anand, and famous malayalam critic Prof. Mampuzha Kumaran. Moreover, it is the birthplace of Malayalam film actors Innocent Edavela Babu and 'Mayuri'Sudha Chandran, besides renowned playback singer P Jayachandran and film director Mohan. Three centuries ago, Unnayi Warrier, the renowned writer who penned Nalacharitam, tailor-made for Kathakali stages, also was born here. Ammannur Madhava Chakyar, who gave Koodiyattam a global address, lived in Irinjalakuda until his death in 2008. Popular Kathakali artist Sadanam Krishnankutty too has made Irinjalakuda his home for long. Irinjalakuda is well known for Coconut oil industries and allied products. The famous Brands such as KPL shudhi, KLF Nirmal, Chandrika Soap, KSE Ltd (Cattle Feeds) all hail from the town. Events such as Pindiperunnal, Koodalmanikyam utsavam & Shashti are very famous. Thousands of spectators flood into Irinjalakuda to watch these events. Moreover the recently started cultural celebration namely Thanima Irinjalakuda has attracted a lot from the suburbs. Irinjalakuda was the first sub-district in Kerala to be announced as 100 per cent computer-literate. Christ College in Irinjalakuda is one of the oldest and most famous colleges in India for arts and sciences. It is also a popular filming location.
