The Iraq Freedom Congress (or Iraqi Freedom Congress, IFC) is a libertarian, progressive, democratic, and secularist group that opposes the foreign military occupation, all forms of sectarian violence, Ba'athism, Islamism, and nationalism.

  • The Iraq Freedom Congress (or Iraqi Freedom Congress, IFC) is a libertarian, progressive, democratic, and secularist group that opposes the foreign military occupation, all forms of sectarian violence, Ba'athism, Islamism, and nationalism. The Congress was formed in March 2005 by members of groups including the Worker-Communist Party of Iraq, the Worker-Communist Party of Iran, the Federation of Workers Councils and Unions in Iraq, the Organization of Women's Freedom in Iraq, the Middle East Centre for Women's Rights, the Union of the Unemployed of Iraq, Japan's Movement for Democratic Socialism, and various other activists and university professors. The IFC has organized self-defense Safety Forces that patrol neighborhoods in Baghdad with a population of around 5,000. They have reduced sectarian violence there to zero. In September 2006, US troops raided the Baghdad office of the IFC, for the crime of putting up posters and banners opposing the US occupation of Iraq. Troops confiscated most of the office's property and destroyed most of what they left behind. On June 7, 2007, US troops again raided the headquarters of the IFC. On July 4th, 2007, US forces abducted Abdelhussain Saddam, the head of the IFC Safety Forces, from his home, shooting his daughter in the process. His body was discovered at a morgue two days later. The IFC has received no mass media coverage, and very little coverage in alternative media. An American anti-war group, the National Organization for the Iraqi Freedom Struggles, supports the IFC and other freedom-oriented Iraqi groups.

Créé à l'origine par le Parti communiste-ouvrier d'Irak, il regroupe aujourd'hui des organisations politiques, syndicales et associatives d'horizons divers. Son actuel secrétaire général est Samir Adil, ancien prisonnier politique sous le régime de Saddam Hussein. L'IFC prône la démocratie et la laïcité et se réclame du progressisme. Il s'oppose à la fois à l'occupation américaine et à l'islam politique en Irak. Son slogan le plus courant, « Ni chiite, ni sunnite, notre identité est humaine ! L'occupation est l'ennemie de l'Humanité », exprime un refus des divisions ethniques et religieuses. Son ancrage syndical, son discours et ses références le classent à gauche. Partisan de la résistance civile, appuyé par une forte base syndicale, l'IFC s'oppose à l'usage du terrorisme et privilégie l'action politique et sociale. Il possède sa propre organisation armée, nommée les Forces de sûreté. Il dispose d'une implantation nationale, mais son nombre d'adhérents est inconnu. Il refuse de participer aux élections, dénonçant la fraude électorale massive et les scrutins tenus sous occupation militaire, ce qui ne permet pas de connaître son audience électorale. L'IFC édite deux journaux, l'un en langue arabe, dont le titre signifie « Ensemble vers la liberté », l'autre en langue anglaise intitulé Iraq Freedom. Depuis juin 2007, il dispose également d'une télévision satellite : Sana TV (« La lumière »). L'IFC dispose également d'un important réseau de solidarité internationale, notamment au Japon et aux États-Unis d'Amérique.

Nato dal partito comunista operaio iracheno, il partito raggruppa oggi delle organizzazioni politiche, sindacali e associative di diverso orizzonte ideologico. Il suo attuale segretario è Samir Adil, ex prigioniero politico sotto il regime di Saddam Hussein L'IFC si batte per la demicrazia e la laicità e si ispira al progressismo; si oppone altresì all'occupazione statunitense e all'islam politico in Irak. Il suo motto più famoso è « Né sciita, né sunnita, la nostra identità è umana! L'occupazione è la nemica dell'umanità» ed esprime un rifiuto delle divisioni etniche e religiose. L'IFC pubblica due giornali, l'uno in lingua araba, il cui titolo significa « Insieme verso la libertà », l'altro in lingua inglese intitolato Iraq Freedom (=libertà irachena). Dal giugno 2007 il partito dispone di una televisione satellitare : Sana TV (« La luce »). L'IFC dispone anche di un importante sostegno di solidarietà internazionale, dal Giappone agli Usa.
