- The International Association of Genocide Scholars is a global, interdisciplinary, non-partisan organization that seeks to further research and teaching about the nature, causes, and consequences of genocide, and advance policy studies on prevention of genocide. The Association, founded in 1994, meets to consider comparative research, important new work, case studies, the links between genocide and other human rights violations, and prevention and punishment of genocide. A central aim of the Association is to draw academics, activists, artists, genocide survivors, journalists, jurists, public policy makers, and other colleagues into the interdisciplinary study of genocide, with the goal of prevention. Membership is open to interested persons worldwide. Genocide Studies and Prevention: An International Journal (GSP) is the official journal of the International Association of Genocide Scholars and is published by the University of Toronto Press through a partnership of the IAGS and the International Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies. In July 2007, IAGS held its Seventh Biennial Conference, Responding to Genocide Before It’s Too Late Genocide Studies and Prevention, in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The conference was hosted by the University of Sarajevo's Institute for Research into Crimes against Humanity and International Law. In 1997 the IAGS unanimously passed a formal resolution affirming the Armenian Genocide. In December 2007 the organization passed another resolution reaffirming the Armenian Genocide and officially recognizing both the Greek Genocide and the Assyrian Genocide: the IAGS ... recognizes the genocides inflicted on Assyrian and Greek populations of the Ottoman Empire between 1914 and 1923.
- Die International Association of Genocide Scholars ist eine globale, fächerübergreifende, unabhängige Organisation, die Forschungen und Lehren zur Natur, zu Ursachen und Konsequenzen von Völkermord und Untersuchungen zur Prävention von Völkermord betreibt. Die IAGS ist eine autonome Schwesterorganisation der 1982 gegründeten Non-Profit-Organisation Institute for the Study of Genocide (ISG). Die Organisation wurde 1994 gegründet. Ihre Mitglieder treffen sich alle zwei Jahre. Bei den Treffen geht es um vergleichende Forschung, wichtige neue Arbeiten, Fallstudien, Verbindungen zwischen Völkermord und grausamen Menschenrechtsverletzungen, Prävention und Bestrafung von Völkermord. Ziel der Organisation ist es, intensiver auf Genozidfragen einzugehen, als es die regulären "Zwei-Stunden-Konferenzen" ermöglichen und Berufstätige verschiedener Disziplinen zu einer interdisziplinären Zusammenarbeit zusammenzuführen. Des Weiteren beraten die Vorstandsmitglieder sowie die Mitglieder der ISG und der IAGS Medien, Regierungen und zwischenstaatliche Organisationen zum Zweck der frühen Warnung und der Prävention. Das letzte (siebente) Zweijahrestreffen der IAGS fand vom 9. bis 13. Juli 2007 in der bosnischen Hauptstadt Sarajewo statt. Die IAGS und die ISG haben mehrere Bücher publiziert. Dazu gehören Darfur: Genocide Before Our Eyes (ISG 2005), Teaching About Genocide--A Guidebook for College Teachers: Critical Essays, Syllabi, Bibliography (ISG 2002), Ever Again? Evaluating the United Nations Genocide Convention on Its 50th Anniversary and Proposals to Activate the Convention (ISG 1999), Genocide: Essays Toward Understanding, Early Warning, and Prevention (IAGS 1999), The Prevention of Genocide: Rwanda and Yugoslavia Reconsidered (ISG 1994), Genocide Watch (1992), Lives at Risk: A Study of Violations of Life Integrity in 50 States in 1987 Based on the Amnesty International 1988 Report (ISG 1990). Eine Mitgliedschaft ist für Wissenschaftler, für Akademiker und für alle weltweit interessierten Personen möglich. Präsident ist Gregory Stanton.
