These were flat (planar) quasi-ribbons that worked to move air based on the principal of electro magnetic repulsion. EMIT/EMIM were acronyms for Electromagnetic Induction Tweeter and Midrange. Variants were made, such as the EMIT-R or radial tweeter, and the SEMIT or super emit. The first high end Infinity speakers were the servo-static (using a servo to control the woofer movement) and the quantum. The massive Infinity-IRS (Infinity reference system) was considered the first ultra-high end system at a cost of $65,000 in the 1980s. it consisted of 76 EMIT tweeters, 36 EMIM midrange drivers, and twelve 12" polypropylene woofers in four towers. The reference and later Kappa series were discontinued when Mr. Nudell sold Infinity to Harman Kardon and left the company to form Genesis Technologies; a high-end loudspeaker company. The Genesis flagship system, in excess of $130,000 is basically an updated Infinity IRS system. Since the departure of Nudell, Infinity speaker designs have taken a simpler, and more conventional approach without planar drivers. The efficient SM (Studio Monitor) series incorporated a polycell tweeter and graphite impregnated midrange/woofers. While not as elaborate or high end as previous Infinity efforts, they represented a popular consumer niche. Today, Infinity produces packages for a wide range of audio applications, including multichannel surround sound home theatre packages, in-wall home speakers, marine applications, as well as beyond loudspeakers alone with the inclusion of powered sub woofers and car audio amplifiers. Infinity products are used with all Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group's vehicles, some Mitsubishi vehicles in 90's to 2006, and have also been a popular fixture in many Chrysler vehicles, manufacturing premium components for the company's top of the line audio systems found in their vehicles since 1987. It is part of the Harman International Industries group.

Dieser Überlautsprecher galt zeitweise als der teuerste und für viele bis heute als der beste Lautsprecher der Welt. Unter dem Markennamen Infinity gab es fünf Modellgenerationen in den Jahren 1980–1988, nach Gründung der neuen Marke Genesis baute Arnie Nudell dort den Nachfolger der Reference Standard und führte sie dort unter dem Namen Genesis 1.1 weiter. Für die Fans der Marke endete die Firmengeschichte von Infinity mit dem Ausscheiden von Arnie Nudell. Die beiden Modelle Renaissance 80 und Renaissance 90 waren die ersten alleine von Cary Christie entwickelten Modelle. Klassiker wurden die "Beta" und "Gamma" 1987- 1993, die Modelle Renaissance 90 und 80,Epsilon, Sigma und Omega waren die letzten klassischen Infinities. Von einigen Fans der Infinity-Classics werden die 1994–1998 gebauten x.1- und x.2-Modelle nur eingeschränkt als klassische Infinity akzeptiert. Sie verfügen jedoch mit gefüllten Polypropylen-Membranen für Tief- und Tiefmitteltöner und großen Polypropylen-Kalotten für die Mitteltöner über klassische Infinity-Kappa-Merkmale. Als Hochtöner kommt nicht mehr wie bei den älteren Kappa- und Infinity-Reference-Standard-Modellen ein Magnetostat mit gerader Folienmembran (EMIT) zum Einsatz, sondern einer mit runder Membran (EMIT-R). Arnie Nudell verwendet in den Lautsprechern seiner heutigen Marke Genesis ebenfalls Magnetostat-Hochtöner mit runder Membran. Spätere Lautsprecher unter diesem Markennamen wie auch JBL sind jedoch hochwertige Harman-Lautsprecher. Zur heutigen Produktpalette gehören Lautsprecher-Systeme und Verstärkerendstufen für den Car-Hi-Fi-Bereich.
