- Ian M. Roberts (born July 29, 1965) is an American actor, writer and comedian. Roberts is a 1987 graduate of Grinnell College. Since his days at Grinnell College, Roberts has been a follower of the practices for improv comedy developed by Del Close. Roberts was one of the founding members of the theatre troupe the Upright Citizens Brigade and its affiliated Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. Roberts wrote and starred in the limited release film Martin & Orloff, and appeared with memorable supporting roles in films such as ', Bring It On, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Drillbit Taylor, Step Brothers and Semi-Pro. The Upright Citizens Brigade was featured in its own sketch comedy series on Comedy Central. Here Roberts was most often seen as the UCB Agent Antoine, but he also portrayed several regular characters such as Steve Youngblood and Astronaut Mike Birchwood. A running joke on his UCB character is that the other members believe him to be a cyborg despite his constant assertions to the contrary. Ian also appeared in comedy segments on Late Night with Conan O'Brien for many years. Roberts also was a recurring character in the sitcom Arrested Development, Dr. Fishman (AKA The Literal Doctor, AKA Dr. Wordsmith). Roberts is one of the newest additions to the main cast of Reno 911! for its sixth season, playing the role of Sergeant Jack Declan. In addition, Roberts will be acting alongside his UCB comedy partner Matt Walsh in summer 2009 for a new half-hour comedy series on Spike TV called Players, which was created by Walsh. Roberts and Walsh will star as two brothers who own a sports bar.
