La Frenais himself adapted the series Lovejoy from the Jonathan Gash books for BBC television in the 1980s. Since 1984, he has been married to artist Doris Vartan, the mother of actor Michael Vartan. He was awarded an OBE in the Queen's 2007 Birthday Honours list.
- Ian La Frenais on brittiläinen televisiokäsikirjoittaja. Yhteistyönä he tekivät myös muun muassa käsikirjoitukset Alan Parkerin ohjaamaan elokuvaan The Commitments, ja animaatioelokuvaan Virran viemää. Yksin La Frenais on tehnyt Lovejoyn käsikirjoitukset John Grantin romaanien pohjalta, ja yhdessä Jimmy Nailin luonut Spender -televisiosarjan.
