Hortus Animae was a progressive black metal band from Italy. They formed in 1997. After the release of their debut The Melting Idols, they played with Lacuna Coil and Napalm Death. They originally signed with Black Lotus Records in October 2002 for the release of Waltzing Mephisto, and then with Sleaszy Rider Records in May 2005. They are split up as of January 18, 2007.
