Heidemarie Martha Stefanyshyn-Piper (born on February 7, 1963) is an American Naval officer and a former NASA astronaut. Heide Piper has achieved the rank of captain in the United States Navy. Heidemarie is also a qualified and experienced salvage officer. Her major salvage projects include de-stranding the Exxon Houston off the coast of Barber's Point, on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, and developing the plan for the Peruvian Navy salvage of the Peruvian submarine Pacocha.

She has flown on two space shuttle missions, STS-115 and STS-126. During which time she has completed five spacewalks totaling 33 hours and 42 minutes, putting her 25th on the all-time on the list of space walkers by duration.

Quando trabalhava fora da estação, ela perdeu sua bolsa de ferramentas após a explosão de um aplicador de graxa; o acidente ocorreu quando ela tentava limpar e liberar uma junta emperrada na ISS. A bolsa, que é do tamanho de uma mochila, foi um dos maiores objetos já perdidos no espaço. Heide teve que dividir o uso do material com Stephen Bowen, seu colega de tarefa, já que o ocorrido se deu logo no início da operação; muita graxa tería se espalhado pela câmera de vídeo e pelas luvas da astronauta, e o mundo inteiro assistiu às imagens da bolsa escapando de suas mãos e voando para o infinito.
